Two people were killed in a two-vehicle collision on the Golden State (5) Freeway and an investigation into the crash is underway, the California Highway Patrol reports Thursday.
CHP officers were called at 11:37 p.m. Wednesday to the southbound freeway and the Lakewood Boulevard off-ramp where they found the victims near a gray car and a second vehicle blocking the middle lanes of the freeway
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Downey Fire Department.
One of the victims was identified as 18-year-old Marely Ariana Fragoso Herrera, who died from blunt trauma in the freeway accident, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office. The name, age and gender of the other victim was not yet available.
The crash blocked multiple lanes of the southbound freeway for more than three hours.
