One person was killed Monday when a vehicle went off the Pomona (60) Freeway and burst into flames in the city of South El Monte.

The single-vehicle crash was reported as a brush fire at 2:20 a.m. Monday on the eastbound Pomona Freeway west of the transition to the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway.

Video from the scene showed the vehicle totally engulfed in flames.

The driver’s body was found inside the vehicle after Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters put out the flames, according to the CHP. Their name was not released.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:48 a.m. shutting down the transition from the eastbound Pomona Freeway and the transition to the San Gabriel River Freeway.
