A “hot prowl” burglary suspect allegedly armed with a metal pipe was shot in an arm by police Tuesday morning after being zapped with a Taser to no effect at an apartment building in the Winnetka area of the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
Officers responded at approximately 2:10 a.m. Tuesday to an apartment complex in the 20300 block of Saticoy Street, near Oso Avenue, after getting multiple calls about a burglary suspect inside a residence with occupants present, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect, who entered an apartment, was found with a metal pole that he would not drop and after a Taser failed to subdue him, he was shot by at least one officer, according to the LAPD.
The man was struck in a forearm, police said.
He was in serious condition when taken to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which reported that the man was believed to be in his early 30s.
Police said he had stable vital signs.
A resident who was in an apartment the suspect allegedly broke into was also taken to a hospital. An LAFD spokeswoman said that man was believed to be in his mid-20s and suffered a minor, non-life-threatening injury. The man was treated and released, according to a broadcast report.
