Police Wednesday continued their investigation into the shooting of an alleged “hot prowl” burglar armed with a metal pole, who was wounded in an arm by police after being zapped with a Taser to no effect at an apartment building in the Winnetka area of the San Fernando Valley.

A police officer suffered minor abrasions to her knees during the incident, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Officers responded at approximately 2:10 a.m. Tuesday to an apartment complex in the 20300 block of Saticoy Street, near Oso Avenue, after getting multiple calls about a burglary suspect inside a residence with occupants present.

The suspect, Edgar Ramirez, 39, was breaking windows, had entered an apartment and was armed with a bat, according to the LAPD.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, they responded to the second floor of the complex, where they encountered Ramirez exiting an apartment armed with a metal pole,” according to a police statement.

Officers gave him several commands to drop the metal pole, but he failed to comply. An officer used a Taser, which had no effect. He allegedly advanced toward them and a shooting involving officers occurred.

Ramirez was struck in a forearm, police said.

He did not immediately submit to arrest, yet was eventually taken into custody, police added.

He was treated and released from a hospital for his injuries

Two people were injured as a result of their contact with Ramirez, prior to the arrival of police, authorities said. One of them was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released for a laceration to his hand. The other suffered a minor injury to his lower leg.

A metal pole was recovered at the scene and booked for evidence. No other officers were reported injured.
