The Beverly Hills Police Department announced Wednesday it has received a $85,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to fund a variety of efforts intended to reduce serious injuries and deaths on the streets through September.
According to the police department, the grant will:
— fund DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on identifying suspected impaired drivers;
— support high-visibility enforcement operations targeting violations of California’s hands-free cellphone law; and
— fund additional enforcement efforts on driver behaviors that put people walking or biking at risk, as well as violations that commonly cause crashes, including speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and red-light violations, and improper turning or unsafe lane changes.
The grant also includes funding for collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Police officials said the program will provide officer training and recertification, including Standard Field Sobriety Testing, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and Drug Recognition Expert training.
