Police shot a suspect Friday during a confrontation in downtown Los Angeles and an investigation is underway.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division conducted a traffic stop on an alleged stolen vehicle at 3:31 a.m. Friday at Eighth Street and Gladys Avenue with two suspects inside the vehicle. At some point, police confronted one of the two suspects and the officers shot them, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

Police arrested one suspect at the scene and the wounded suspect was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics where the suspect had stable vital signs, according to an LAPD official at the scene.

The suspect in the passenger seat of the car was manipulating items inside the vehicle including a possible handgun, according to the official.

No officers were injured during the shooting. Eighth and Ninth streets at Gladys Avenue and other streets in the area were closed while police conducted their investigation of the shooting.

  1. I watch many cop involved shootings and it never ceases to amaze me that they ALWAYS handcuffs a severely wounded person who is no.longer a threat, surrounded by 10 or more cops, with his gun in their possession. Why the need to handcuff an unconscious or barely living suspect?? All they’ve done is make it extra hard for paramedics to administer life saving treatment. Its a ridiculous policy and has no place in a so called humane society.
