A woman died Friday from injuries suffered in a collision between an SUV and a box truck on the Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach.

Her death was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:54 a.m. Friday by a Long Beach hospital.

The collision was reported at 1:25 p.m. Thursday on the southbound side of the bridge near Pier D, according to the CHP.

The silver SUV flipped over on its side, blocking lanes, the CHP said. Traffic was diverted to the new Long Beach International Gateway Bridge. The bridge was reopened at about 4:40 p.m.

The CHP’s on-line log indicated that the victim was inside the overturned SUV.

The woman’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
