A woman was shot to death by a man she was dating who then mortally wounded himself a short time and distance later in Long Beach, authorities said Saturday.

The woman, identified as 23-year-old Long Beach resident Daisy Uribe, was shot at about 10:50 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Summit Street near Caspian Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The area is a few blocks west of the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

Arriving officers found Uribe with a gunshot wound to her upper body, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office reported that Uribe died inside a vehicle.

Less than 10 minutes later, officers learned of a second shooting nearby in the 1600 block of West 19th Street near Canal Avenue, police said. That victim also had a gunshot wound to the upper body and died at a hospital. His name has not yet been released.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the male subject from the second shooting and the female victim from the first shooting were in a dating relationship,” the LBPD said. “They were involved in a domestic violence incident, which escalated when the man shot the woman on Summit Street.”

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call detectives Oscar Valenzuela and Jesus Espinoza at 562-570-7244 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
