A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross a street outside of a crosswalk before sunrise Monday in the West San Fernando Valley suburb of Winnetka.
The driver remained at the scene and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service.
The crash occurred at 2:49 a.m. Monday at Saticoy Street and Winnetka Avenue, Eisenman said.
The boy was later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Louis Powell Jr.
