A 69-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he plowed into a center divider on a Menifee street, ejecting him onto the roadway, authorities said Monday.

John Scherer of Winchester was fatally injured at 8:33 p.m. Sunday on Domenigoni Parkway, just east of Laguna Vista Drive, according to the Menifee Police Department.

Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said Scherer was traveling westbound at an unconfirmed speed when “he lost control and struck the center median, resulting in the crash.”

The victim was ejected onto the busy four-lane corridor. No other vehicles were involved.

Witnesses called 911, and an ambulance crew reached the location within a few minutes, taking the gravely injured rider to a regional trauma center, where he died a short time later, according to Coburn.

“It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs were factors,” he said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department’s Traffic Unit at 951-723-1566.
