A 48-year-old man was killed in a crash in San Jacinto Sunday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced.
Deputies responded to the area of Mountain and Old Mountain Avenues at around 1:25 a.m. Sunday to a report of an unresponsive man in the roadway. They performed lifesaving measures, but the victim was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
An unoccupied vehicle was located about 200 feet away with major crash damage, authorities said. Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on Mountain Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and was ejected from the vehicle.
The vehicle came to a stop on the other side of the roadway, and no other vehicles were believed to be involved.
The man was later identified by coroner’s officials as Jesus Almanza of Hemet.
Mountain Avenue between Seventh Street and Esplanade Avenue was temporarily closed for the investigation.
Anyone with additional information about the accident was encouraged to contact Community Service Officer Layvas at 951-654-2702.
