Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a woman suspected of gunning down an acquaintance at a Temecula residence.

Nicaela Andria Hernandez, 32, of Temecula was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail Saturday on suspicion of murder.

Hernandez is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Her case was under review Tuesday by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Kelleher, patrol deputies were called to the 31000 block of Sunflower Way, near Temecula Lane, shortly before 7 p.m. Friday to investigate reports of a gun assault.

Kelleher said deputies found the victim, identified only as a Temecula woman, suffering from a fatal wound, and she died at the scene.

Hernandez was at the property and detained for questioning, according to the sergeant.

By the predawn hours Saturday, Central Homicide Unit detectives determined there was sufficient evidence to formally arrest the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Riverside jail.

A possible motive for the alleged shooting was not disclosed, and it was unclear how the suspect and victim knew one another.

Background information on Hernandez was also unavailable.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
