A 19-year-old Seal Beach man was among three hikers found dead at Mount Baldy, authorities said Wednesday.

The hiker was identified as Marcus Alexander Muench Casanova, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials. Casanova’s cause of death remained under investigation.

The identities of the other two hikers were pending.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies launched their search at about 11:30 a.m. Monday for a 19-year-old reported injured near Devils Backbone, authorities said. The hiker appeared to have fallen about 500 feet.

The man’s friend and hiking companion were in an area with cell service and were able to provide their location to rescuers, deputies said.

At about 7:30 p.m. Monday, an airship from Los Angeles County helped with rescue efforts, but high winds foiled an effort to hoist the victim, deputies said. An air medic was hoisted down and was able to confirm that the three were dead, deputies said.
