A driving under the influence suspect is in custody Tuesday after he led police on a high-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley that ended in a violent crash in Winnetka, near Reseda.

Los Angeles Police Department officers began pursing the suspect, who was driving a gray sedan and was believed to be armed, in Encino near Balboa Boulevard at approximately 9:25 p.m., CBS LA reported.

The suspect drove onto the northbound Ventura (101) Freeway, where he traveled through Lake Balboa, Tarzana, Woodland Hills and Chatsworth at speeds approaching 100 miles an hour. The suspect left the freeway and California High Patrol officer, who joined the chase on the freeway, deployed a spike strip, which the driver avoided, according to reports from the scene.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, the suspect crashed the car into an electrical pole near the intersection of Saticoy Street and Corbin Avenue in Winnetka, where he was arrested, NBC 4 reported.
