Los Angeles County Jail records Wednesday show that the mother of an infant found dead in a Santa Monica apartment was scheduled for arraignment on a felony charge Thursday morning.

Santa Monica police are continuing their investigation of Carmen Anita Degregg, 24, and the death of her infant who was found Tuesday morning in an apartment in the Pico Neighborhood of Santa Monica.

Degregg, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the infant’s death and detectives from the Santa Monica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating the case.

Police were notified shortly before 11:54 a.m. Tuesday that UCLA Police had detained a woman on campus after she made statements indicating she had harmed her child and left the baby inside an apartment in the 2000 block of Broadway.

Officers responded to the residence, where an infant was found inside an apartment with “significant injuries”, according to an SMPD release.

Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and took the baby to a hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead, police said.

The age or gender of the child was not released.

Degregg is being held at the Los Angeles County Jail For Women, Lynwood, on $2 million bail, according to court records.

While there have been media reports that a frying pan was involved in the child’s death, the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

  1. Why doesn’t any media outlets have a picture of the suspect mother who killed the toddler. That is very odd. It seems as though someone told all of them DON’T SHOW HER PICTURE
