One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint in Coachella, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.
The checkpoint was conducted Saturday night near Cesar Chavez Street and Avenue 50 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.
A total of 528 cars drove through the checkpoint, 20 of which were contacted. One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and deputies issued a total of 19 citations to people allegedly driving unlicensed or with a suspended license.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
