A 39-year-old man who police said was homeless and was found shot to death in the Vermont Knolls area of Los Angeles was identified Tuesday by county authorities.

The shooting was reported at 10:10 p.m. Sunday in an alley to the rear of 950 W. 80th St., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man, identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office as Miguel Sanchez, who was found inside a tent and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A dog was found shot to death nearby, according to the LAPD.

There was no suspect information available, an officer said.

Video from the scene showed officers interviewing residents of the area and the alley cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
