The would-be victim of an alleged armed robbery attempt in the Winnetka area of Los Angeles who wrestled the gun away and fatally shot the other man has been arrested, authorities said Sunday.

The drama started at about 4:10 p.m. Saturday in the 20400 block of Sherman Way, between Oso and Mason avenues, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

A 31-year-old man was in an alley when a 36-year-old man approached, attempted to rob him, then fired shots at him, according to a desk officer at the LAPD’s Operations Center. The two men got into a fight and the would-be victim wrestled the gun away from the assailant and fired a shot that struck him, the officer said.

Paramedics took the suspect to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Neither man’s name was disclosed.

The potential victim was subsequently arrested, the LAPD’s Media Relations Division said Sunday, though it was not immediately known what charges he may be facing.

The shooting is still under investigation.
