The Torrance Police Department announced Wednesday that it has received an $18,000 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to assist with reducing alcohol-related harm.

The grant is one of approximately 50 awards distributed to law enforcement agencies in the state through the Alcoholic Beverage Control Alcohol Policing Partnership program, police said.

The program was established in 1995 to strengthened the partnership between the department and local law enforcement agencies, with a focus on keeping alcoholic beverages away from minors and preventing harm to the community.

The funds will be utilized to prevent alcoholic beverage sales to minors, intoxicated patrons, illegal solicitors of alcohol, and other crime-related activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs, according to the Torrance Police Department.
