A person was discovered dead Thursday following the knockdown of a fire at home in Boyle Heights.

Firefighters responded at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday to the 700 block of South Soto Street, near Whittier Boulevard, to reports of a fire at a single-family dwelling with visible intense heavy smoke, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.

The fire was discovered outside, exposing one side of the residence.

Thirty-seven firefighters managed to knock down the fire in 19 minutes after locating the flames, Middleton said.

During a primary search at the location, firefighters discovered an unidentified person dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.
