A 27-year-old man believed to be transient suffered fatal injuries when a motorist accidentally ran him over while the victim was lying in a driveway at a Santa Ana car wash, police said Wednesday.
Police were called just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to the Orange Coin Car Wash at 117 N. Euclid St. after the victim — Phillip Michael Villafana — was found trapped under a vehicle, according to Officer Natalie Garcia of the Santa Ana Police Department.
Villafana’s last known address was in Long Beach.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters got the victim out from under the car, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Garcia said.
It was unclear why Villafana was lying in the driveway. The driver was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, but investigators do not think his impairment is what caused the accident, Garcia added.
