A car plunged more than 100 feet down the side of Mulholland Drive Wednesday morning in Studio City, prompting rescuers to mount a complicated air and ground effort to save the driver.
The car may have careened down a drop of 150 feet over the side of the road about 7:20 a.m. in the 8500 block of Mulholland Drive, according to the Los Angeles Department.
A woman believed to be about 30 years old was trapped and LAFD crews lowered a paramedic to the vehicle, which had to be stabilized before ground crews made their way to the woman, whose vehicle landed on its side.
At least a dozen rescuers could be seen working to rescue the woman.
She was eventually freed and hoisted aboard a waiting helicopter to be taken directly to a trauma center, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
The woman was in serious but stable condition, Lantz said.
