A 50-year-old mountain biker suffering from “severe medical distress” was pronounced dead Sunday in a remote location near the La Tuna Foot Trail in Shadow Hills, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 10:44 a.m. Sunday to the La Tuna Foot Trail, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, and personnel from the Burbank Fire Department were also at scene, the LAFD reported.

Paramedics performed CPR on the 50-year-old man to no avail, and subsequently pronounced him dead at the scene.

An LAFD helicopter was in the process of preparing a hoist operation to transport the victim to a hospital.

“The scene will be turned over to law enforcement upon their arrival,” the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said.

The victim was found next to a mountain bike, Stewart added.
