A suspect who had barricaded himself inside a house in Lancaster for more than 15 hours was identified Wednesday.

Deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a barricaded armed suspect at 43967 Blue Sky Court at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday. They contacted the department’s Special Enforcement Bureau, which responded to the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

SEB personnel assumed tactical command of the barricade and a crisis negotiation team attempted to make contact with the suspect.

Surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents, authorities said.

Avenue J-8 from 21st Street West to 25th Street West was closed during the standoff.

A shot may have been heard around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, prompting Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives to be called to conduct a death investigation.

The barricade was officially declared over an hour later, after the man was found dead.

He was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Kevon Burgess, who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
