A Banning High School student was arrested for allegedly brandishing a weapon and threatening another student with the weapon, authorities said Thursday.

High school resource officers responded to a report of an individual threatening another student with metal knuckles shortly before 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Banning High School Police Department.

After officers attempted to make contact with the student, the person evaded law enforcement by jumping a perimeter fence and began running away from the school.

Officers made contact with the suspect at San Gorgonio Avenue and Lincoln Street, where the student physically resisted officers and did not obey their verbal commands, police said.

The suspect did not sustain any injuries, but was provided medical treatment as a precaution, and was later taken into custody.

An officer sustained an unspecified injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The student was booked on suspicion of obstructing/resisting an officer, possession of a weapon at school, possession of metal knuckles and threatening crime with intent to terrorize.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the department’s Detective Bureau at 951-922-3170 with reference number 26-282.
