A suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in Indio in 2021has been arrested following a years-long investigation, authorities said Wednesday.
Pedro Angel Gonzalez, 28, was booked into the Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of homicide, according to the Indio Police Department.
Bail information was not immediately available.
The shooting was reported about 12:40 p.m. Dec. 14, 2021, in the 43000 block of Nairobi Street, according to police.
Officers arriving at the scene found Joseph Espinoza Mendez, 27, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds inside a residential garage, police said.
Paramedics provided aid before Mendez was transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Authorities said they identified Gonzalez as the suspect during the investigation, and he was arrested Feb. 11 during a traffic stop in Coachella.
The case was presented to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, where prosecutors filed charges including homicide and additional felony violations, police said.
