Paramedics were assessing two people for minor smoke inhalation Saturday after a fire broke out at a six-story hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 11:52 a.m. Saturday to 121 E. Fifth St., one block east of Main Street in the Toy District, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews discovered fire in one unit on the second floor that was being held in check by sprinklers. The fire was knocked down at 12:10 p.m.

The city’s Department of Transportation was requested for traffic control, and the intersection of Fifth and Main streets was closed temporarily.
