A video showing a man attempting to carjack a vehicle from a Lakewood gas station in early February is circulating on social media, while authorities said Sunday that the investigation into the incident was still ongoing.

Deputies responded to the incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 11500 block of East Carson Street in Lakewood on Feb. 9, obtained surveillance footage and identified the suspect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Within two hours of the initial call for service, deputies on the Lakewood Special Assignment Team located and apprehended the suspect without incident, authorities said. The suspect was identified as Ryan Patrick Campbell and was booked for attempted carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.

On Saturday, detectives became aware of a video of the incident circulating social media. The video ”gained significant attention and went viral on multiple platforms,” according to a statement issued by the department.

The video shows a shirtless man getting into a woman’s car after he appeared to threaten her with a metal object. The woman lunged forward, pounding the window and yelled that her baby was still inside the car. The investigation was still ongoing, according to authorities.
