One violent felon out of Los Angeles County killed another in a state prison, authorities reported Wednesday.

John Cisneros, 49, who was assigned to California State Prison, Sacramento from Los Angeles County on July 6, 2015 after being sentenced to five years for second-degree robbery, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 9:15 p.m. Monday and was pronounced dead 44 minutes later, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

“While incarcerated, he was sentenced by Los Angeles County on Oct. 16, 2017, to 28 years for penetration, oral copulation and attempted rape with force/violence/fear of immediate bodily injury,” according to a CDCR statement.

The suspect in Cisneros’ killing was identified as Irvin Sanchez, 34, who was assigned to the prison from Los Angeles County on Feb. 27, 2013 after being sentenced to 18 years for attempted second-degree murder, with street-gang and use-of-a-firearm enhancements, and one year, four months for concealing a firearm in a vehicle, to be served concurrently.

Sanchez is now in restricted housing pending an investigation by the prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
