A 56-year-old man who was fatally struck by a hit and run driver in Compton was identified Friday by county authorities.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Jose Navarette.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ Department’s Compton Station responded at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday to North Alameda and East Dixon streets where they found Navarette, a watch commander at the Compton Station told City News Service.
Paramedics from the Compton Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted to revive the unconscious Navarette, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver drove away from the scene in an unknown direction and did not stop to render aid to Navarette, deputies said. There was no vehicle description.
The collision closed the intersection of North Alameda and East Dixon while deputes investigated the scene of the collision.
