A robbery suspect who was fatally shot by officers at a 7-Eleven in the West Rancho Dominguez area of Los Angeles was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office Monday as a 53-year-old homeless woman.
Officers responded at 11:10 p.m. Saturday to a reported robbery at Redondo Beach Boulevard and Figueroa Street and saw the suspect behind a store counter, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“Officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, the suspect retrieved what appeared to be a firearm,” police said.
Police shot the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was identified as Cynthia Ivie, who was unhoused at the time of her death.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
