The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department Tuesday announced a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect wanted in a fatal 2019 shooting outside a barber shop in Sylmar.
Omar Alexander Cardenas, who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives list, is being sought for allegedly shooting the unidentified victim in the head on Aug. 15, 2019, according to the FBI.
The increased reward was announced at a Tuesday morning news conference where Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell detailed the crime, which took place in an outdoor shopping center.
Cardenas was charged with murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 3, 2020, officials said.
He was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest on Sept. 2, 2021.
Authorities said Cardenas should be considered armed and dangerous. He is described as “white (Hispanic),” 5-feet-6 inches to 5-feet-7 inches tall, 240-300 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wears prescription glasses and has a beard, authorities said.
Anyone with information regarding Cardenas’ whereabouts was urged to contact the FBI at its toll-free tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (00-225-5324), or at tips.fbi.gov.
