A fire erupted Tuesday at a multi-unit storage facility adjacent to Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore, causing significant damage but no injuries.
The blaze was reported at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Secure Self-Storage in the 29100 block of Riverside Drive, near Collier Avenue and just west of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said more than a half-dozen engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in three storage units, where explosions were heard.
Firefighters quickly established hose lays and prevented the flames from extending into neighboring units.
Sheriff’s deputies shut down access to the area around the structure for public safety.
At 5:40 p.m., the fire was completely contained, and the flames were extinguished minutes later.
Crews were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until 8 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
