A 73-year-old woman was fatally struck by a suspected hit-and-run driver while riding her bicycle in Koreatown Friday.

The woman was struck around 6:40 a.m., when a white Dodge Ram truck being driven eastbound on Olympic Boulevard made a right turn onto southbound Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The woman was hit while riding eastbound on Olympic within the crosswalk, police said.

The driver failed to stop and render aid, fleeing east on Olympic toward Menlo Avenue, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and took the woman to a hospital, where she later died. Her name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Detectives located the suspect’s vehicle near the scene of the collision and took it into police custody as evidence, noting that drug use may have contributed to the fatal crash.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.

A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the identity, arrest, and conviction of the suspect.
