A 73-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a Ram truck driven by a suspected hit-and-run driver while riding her bicycle in Koreatown was identified Tuesday.
The woman was struck around 6:40 a.m. Friday, when the white truck was being driven eastbound on Olympic Boulevard made a right turn onto southbound Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The woman was hit while riding eastbound on Olympic Boulevard within the crosswalk, police said.
The driver failed to stop and render aid, fleeing east on Olympic Boulevard toward Menlo Avenue, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and took the woman to a hospital, where she later died. She identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Kum Soon Lee-Kim, who sustained blunt trauma.
Detectives located the suspect’s vehicle near the scene of the crash and took it into police custody as evidence, noting that drug use may have contributed to the fatal crash.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.
A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect.
