A crash in Covina that sent eight people to a hospital Wednesday occurred as a man engaged in a high-speed vehicle chase of his wife following a domestic dispute, police said.
The crash, which involved as many as five vehicles, was reported at 5:50 a.m. near the intersection of Hollenbeck Avenue and Cypress Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Video from the scene showed at least two badly mangled vehicles, one of them on its side. Four patients were taken to a hospital, a fire department public information officer said.
The Covina Police Department said an additional four individuals sustained injuries and were also taken to a hospital, noting that the injuries of all eight people were extensive.
It was unclear if one of the hospitalized people was the wife of the suspect, although police confirmed she was injured.
The suspect fled the crash scene, but was found hiding on a nearby property. He was taken to a hospital to be medically cleared before booking, the watch commander said.
According to police, the couple are in their 40s.
