At least 21 people were arrested during a DUI checkpoint in Riverside, authorities announced Saturday.

The checkpoint was conducted at Central Avenue, east of Riverside Avenue, between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Riverside Police Department.

A total of 1,058 vehicles were contacted, with 18 people arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license, according to the police department.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and one was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
