A vehicle fire in Cabazon extended into adjacent vegetation Tuesday, scorching about 40 acres and prompting evacuation orders and warnings before it was stopped, with no injuries reported.
The blaze was reported shortly before 2 p.m. at Almond Street and Bonita Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fore Department.
Responding crews reported an RV fire extended flames into vegetation that were moving at moderate speed.
An evacuation order was issued for the area east and south of Almond Street, west of Elm Street and north of Bonita Avenue. Evacuation warnings were issued south of Interstate 10, north of Margaret Avenue, west of Rushmore Avenue, east of Elm Street, south of Bonita Avenue, north of Esperanza Avenue, west of Elm Street and east of Almond Street.
The evacuation orders and warnings were lifted as of 5 p.m.
Crews were expected to remain at the scene for nearly four hours for mop-up work.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
