Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Friday sought the public’s help locating a 37-year-old man suspected of knocking out an East L.A. store employee who tried to stop him from shoplifting.
Quandrell Ivey, who is now the subject of an arrest warrant, allegedly pushed the worker down, “rendering him unconscious” and then fled the store at 223 S. Atlantic Blvd., between the Pomona (60) Freeway and Pomona Boulevard, in East Los Angeles, around 12:50 p.m. on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, according to the LASD.
KTLA5 reported that the location was a Chevron convenience store, where the employee had worked for 20 years.
Investigators allege the victim intervened when he saw Ivey remove items from a store display and walk past the register on his way to exit without paying. A description of the victim was not provided.
According to KCAL9, the victim required brain surgery for a critical head injury.
Ivey is also wanted for a parole violation, according to the sheriff’s department.
Ivey is Black, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Investigators say he is a transient known to hang out in Hollywood.
Anyone with information about Ivey’s location or the alleged crime was urged to contact the sheriff’s East Los Angeles Station at 323-264-4151. Anyone preferring to remain anonymous, may call L.A. Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
