A man was fatally struck by an SUV when he ran into lanes of traffic in Long Beach, authorities said Saturday.

Officers responded at about 8 p.m. Friday to the area of Del Amo Boulevard and Locust Avenue regarding an injury collision involving a pedestrian, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

A 2023 Hyundai Tucson was going westbound on Del Amo when the pedestrian ran into the lanes of traffic and was struck by the SUV. Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with police.

“At this time, speed, distracted driving, and driving under the influence are not believed to be factors in the collision,” according to a police statement. “The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner’s Office.”
