A suspect crashed a stolen U-Haul into another vehicle Monday in San Clemente, fatally injuring a passenger in the other vehicle.
Deputies attempted to stop the U-Haul just before 8 a.m., and during a short pursuit, the fleeing suspect crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of South Ola Vista and Avenida Granada, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“The driver and passenger of the U-Haul fled,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. “The other vehicle had multiple passengers, one of whom is deceased …,” according to the sheriff’s department, which reported that additional passengers were taken to a hospital.
“Deputies have located two suspects matching the description of the U-Haul driver and passenger,” according to the OCSD, which indicated no suspects were believed to be outstanding.
