A fast-moving brush fire in Moreno Valley grew to nearly 2,850 acres Friday and was threatening to expand.
The fire was reported about 11 a.m. Friday in the 15900 block of Gilman Springs Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The blaze was initially estimated at roughly 5 acres but quickly spread, reaching 2,848 acres by 3:20 p.m., fire officials said.
Evacuation orders were issued for zones MOE-0507, MOE-0641, MOE-0744, MOE-0745, MOE-0746, MOE-0747, RVC-0748, RVC-0825, RVC-0826. An evacuation warning was issued for zones MOE-0504, MOE-0505, MOE-0506, MOE-0633, MOE-0636, MOE-0637, MOE-0638, MOE-0639, MOE-0640, MOE-0743, MOE-0822, MOE-0823.

An evacuation shelter was opened at Valley View High School, located at 13135 Nason St., in Moreno Valley. Animals were being received at San Jacinto Animal Shelter located at 581 S. Grand Ave. in San Jacinto.
At least three air tankers, two type 1 helicopters, about 40 engines and four water tenders were requested to assist in battling the blaze, according to the fire department.
Gilman Springs Road between Alessandro Road and Bridge Street was temporarily closed.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no injuries were immediately reported.
