A man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested in Garden Grove after a multi-county pursuit where he evaded California Highway Patrol officers while driving at high speeds on several freeways, the CHP said Wednesday.
The chase began at around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway in Anaheim. Driving a black pickup truck, the suspect then traversed several cities through Los Angeles County before transitioning to the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Ontario, a CHP spokesman told City News Service.
After driving briefly on the Ontario (15) Freeway in Riverside County, the suspect transitioned east into San Bernardino County before turning back into Riverside County, according to media reports.
He eventually returned to Los Angeles County, driving through the San Gabriel Valley before heading back to Orange County. Prior to entering Orange County, the CHP deployed a spike strip near the transition road from the southbound Orange (57) Freeway to the westbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway
As the suspect began slowing down due to the spike strip, CHP officers arrested him after he surrendered in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Garden Grove just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the CHP said.
