An investigation into possible unexploded ordnance shut down a ramp along a busy freeway in Inglewood Friday while a bomb squad investigated.
The item, reported to be a grenade-like device, was located about 9:30 a.m. in the area of Century Boulevard and the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP shut down the on-ramp from Century Boulevard to the northbound side of the freeway and the Century Boulevard collector road, an officer said.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad responded along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The nature of the item was not disclosed, but it was recovered and rendered safe, with the bomb squad clearing the scene by 11:45 a.m., according to a fire department dispatcher.
All lanes were reopened by noon, according to the CHP.
