A vegetation fie that erupted in Mecca charred 17 acres and threatened an abandoned structure before firefighters stopped the forward rate of spread and held containment at 60% Thursday.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Street and Avenue 70, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that crews battled a 15-acre vegetation fire that was being hampered by strong winds. Firefighters stopped the blaze at 17 acres a few hours later, with no injuries or evacuations reported.
Crews remained at the scene as of Thursday morning for mop-up work and strengthening the line with resources, officials said.
There was no immediate word on what triggered the blaze.
