Cancer research and treatment center City of Hope announced Monday the incorporation of Pacific Shores Medical Group, an agreement billed as one of the largest expansions of the hospital’s clinical network.

The move adds seven locations to the network — Glendale, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach, Torrance and two in Long Beach.

“Together with the highly esteemed providers joining us from Pacific Shores, we continue to advance the delivery of cancer care and expand patient access to City of Hope’s unparalleled research, treatment and care,” Robert W. Stone, president and CEO of City of Hope, said in a statement. “Pacific Shores allows us to continue expanding our mission to serve more patients, families and communities across Southern California and beyond.”

According to the hospital, 14 physicians, 11 nurse practitioners and physician assistants and more than 200 staff members will join City of Hope via Pacific Shores. Pacific Shores patients will continue to see their current physicians, while also having access to City of Hope researchers and specialists, clinical trails, treatments and cancer education and prevention resources.

Founded in 1986, Pacific Shores treats more than 80,000 patients a year. Adding Pacific Shores bolsters City of Hope’s reach in Orange County, where it is developing the Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, which is set to open next summer, and the only specialty hospital for treating and curing cancer, scheduled to open in 2025.

City of Hope Newport Beach, the first phase of City of Hope’s expansion into Orange County, has been open since January 2020.

“Pacific Shores physicians chose to join City of Hope because of a shared interest in advancing cancer medicine through research, clinical trials and breakthrough treatments,” said Dr. N. Simon Tchekmedyian, founder and CEO of Pacific Shores Medical Group. “We are delighted that our patients will have unprecedented access to City of Hope’s leading-edge treatments, extensive clinical trials and highly specialized cancer expertise.”
