The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office announced the cause of death Friday of the daughter of a Los Angeles mayoral candidate, who opted to drop out of the race as a result.
Emily Beutner, the 22-year-old daughter of former L.A. Unified School District Superintendent Austin Beutner, was located shortly before midnight on Jan. 6 by the Los Angeles County Fire Department in a field near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Technology Drive.
Emily was in apparent medical distress before being taken to a hospital, where she died at approximately 2:10 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
A deputy medical examiner performed an examination on Emily on Jan. 15, and the cause of her death was certified on Friday. According to the medical examiner’s office, the death was ruled a drug overdose resulting from the effects of mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, quetiapine and mirtazapine.
