A brush fire that broke out Wednesday near the southwestern edge of Lake Mathews charred just over an acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:35 p.m. in the area of La Sierra Avenue and Cajalco Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the spot and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium brush, not threatening any structures.
Several Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters were summoned and made one or two drops before firefighters on the ground stopped the brusher’s forward rate of spread at 1:05 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
Full containment was anticipated by 2 p.m.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
