A fire that broke out Tuesday behind a Wildomar strip mall damaged a building and several vehicles before it was partially contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Hidden Springs and Clinton Keith roads, less than a quarter-mile west of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a drainage canal, directly adjacent to a tire store in the strip mall.
Flames spread to the rear of the business, causing external damage, and extended to several vehicles parked around the structure, according to reports from the scene.
California Highway Patrol officers partially shut down Hidden Springs for public safety.
There were several explosions reported at the location, but they might have been the result of electrical equipment outside the tire shop catching fire.
As of 2:25 p.m., the forward rate of spread of the fire in vegetation had been stopped, but crews were continuing to work on knocking down the flames around the businesses.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started.
