A homeowner suffered major burns Wednesday in a residential fire that also significantly damaged the property on the east end of Moreno Valley.

The blaze was reported at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday at 29305 Highland Blvd., near Juniper Avenue, in a lightly populated location fronting the Badlands north of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said sheriff’s deputies were first to reach the location and encountered flames raging in the single-story house.

Deputies pulled the property owner out of the smoke-filled residence, placing the victim in the driveway, where paramedics rendered aid before transporting the party, whose identity was not disclosed, to nearby Riverside University Medical Center with burns covering one-third of the victim’s body, according to officials at the scene.

There were indications that another person was at the location, but it was unclear whether the individual was injured.

As of 11:55 a.m., crews had largely contained the blaze, the cause of which wasn’t immediately known.
